Nina and Gary celebrated their Galway Bay Hotel wedding with an outdoor ceremony on the hotel’s balcony overlooking Galway Bay and the Clare Hills. As a husband-and-wife photography team based in Galway, we captured the preparations, ceremony, and natural moments throughout their day—including a special appearance from their Husky ring bearer.
Outdoor Wedding Ceremony at Galway Bay Hotel
Nina and Gary exchanged vows during a sunny outdoor ceremony on Galway Bay Hotel’s balcony, with views across the water towards the Clare Hills. The setting gave their ceremony a relaxed atmosphere and provided a beautiful backdrop for candid reactions, family photographs and portraits by the bay.
Celebrating with Family and Friends
Close family and friends surrounded Nina and Gary throughout their ceremony. Nina’s four bridesmaids and Gary’s four groomsmen brought plenty of warmth, laughter, and support, creating the relaxed atmosphere seen throughout their photographs.
Groom Preparations in Athenry
My day began with a visit to meet Gary, his family, and the groomsmen. We were meeting at Gary’s parent’s house in Athenry. It wasn’t long before the banter started, ties were fixed, cufflinks closed, and the boys were ready for a few quick photos. Immediately, a groomsman produced a whiskey bottle, which calmed the nerves. We went outside to take advantage of the lovely day. I began with some shots of the groomsmen opening the whiskey. It didn’t take long to get some family photos, and of course the dog of honour, Misha. However, all too soon, I had to leave. I was heading to the Galway Bay Hotel, where Nina and the girls were getting ready.
Bridal Preparations at Galway Bay Hotel
At Galway Bay Hotel, Nina and her bridesmaids enjoyed a relaxed morning as hair and makeup were completed. With her dress, jewellery and other details carefully arranged, there was time to photograph the finishing touches, a champagne toast and a few portraits before everyone made their way to the outdoor ceremony.
Sunshine Over Galway Bay
As the guests began to take their seats, the groomsmen put on a lively show, playfully pretending to drag Gary up the aisle. Spirits were high, and there wasn’t a hint of nerves in sight.
Overhead, the sun’s rays shimmered on the bay’s waters while a gentle breeze carried the crisp, salty air from the crystal-clear sea. Misha, their beloved Siberian Husky, looked magnificent in her custom-made collar and bow.
An Outdoor Handfasting Ceremony

As always, I was ready for the changing light. I positioned myself next to the videographer, allowing me the flexibility to move between the front and back of the ceremony. Nina glided gracefully toward her dashing groom, and the beautiful ceremony began. Though lighting candles outdoors can be tricky, both flames miraculously stayed alight. The ceremony included touching readings and poems from family members, followed by a traditional handfasting ritual. Misha, ever the well-behaved guest, remained calm throughout, making the moment even more special.
Before long, the ceremony concluded, and they were officially husband and wife.
Wedding Portraits in the Memorial Gardens
After the ceremony, we walked next door to the Memorial Gardens for relaxed family and bridal-party photographs. The mature greenery and soft light created a beautiful backdrop, while the bridal party brought plenty of laughter and energy. Alongside the fun group photographs, we made time for natural portraits of Nina and Gary together.
